Copenhagen Summit ~ What do these developed countries want..??

I know, i know much has been written about the Copenhagen Summit which held 2 months back in Denmark, but today i was touched by reading a piece of article in TheHindu (newspaper i like d most).
The article raised some serious questions about the climate change and the steps that the countries around the world are ready to take now on. During 1990s, the talks were centered around as in how to prevent Climate change, but now the talks are on how to adapt to it and manage it...?? A sense of Déjà vu has cropped in among the world leaders.
Firstly, some Gyaan about the green-house gases & there effect ~ GreenHouse gaese (GhGs) mainly include water vapor, Carbondioxide, methane, Nitrousdioxide etc which traps the heat coming from the sun by not reflecting back the sun-rays. So, because of this, the temperature rises and & thus can cause many problems.
Now, on this view of climate change, the world again is divided into two-parts, the Developed one and the Developing one. Most of the Developed nations like US, UK, France has disagreed to cut down the GhGs emissions as it'll have a negative impact on their industrial growth. The most obvious reason of this can be that they want to recover from the recent slowdown/recession, they want to revive their economy n all. Apart from this, the BASIC (developing) countries (Brazil, South Africa, India & China) have voluntarily agreed on reducing the emissions by certain %age themselves.
Above all, instead of citing some measures (to be taken by developed nations for themselves), they are now ready to give around $130 billion to the developing nations to reduce their GhGs emissions by 20-25% by 2025 which is in my opinion totally irresponsible on their part.
Some questions which are to be answered:
1) Why they giving us the money & not setting some guidelines/measures for themselves...??
2) Is India or other developing countries should agree to their stance or suggestions that they r giving..??
This is my first post as a blogger. I started with it, coz i thought this issue is worth talking about& some serious attention should be given .....!!!! Hope u all like it :-)

  1. first of all, a nice post considering the fact its ur first one..
secondly, the ans. to ur above ques. is simple n straight...US is again doing the same thing,Obama talks abt the world but is concerned abt only themselves.they alwaz show their power n money to get things done...
US,in many ways is the centre of world diplomacy and foreign relations. US is the home to World's most powerful organizations like World Bank, UN Security Council, IMF etc. So in a sense, this power comes from them. This easily makes the USA the worlds most powerful country.
In this Copenhagem matter too, its neither France nor UK, which has led to such a stance by these developed nations. Its again the US. The question here is - Can there be an unbiased organization with a motive of world development? Can there be equal restrictions or same regulations for all the countries, ofcourse with some discretion between developed n developing(but not like the above where on one hand, there r 30% emission norms for India which has 3% of the World's population AND on the other hand, there r 3% emission norms for US which has 5% of the World's population...this is truly unfair)

What i can hope is for a better World where every country understands the true meaning of globalisation n let every country flourish :)

  2. hey.. nice to c some of us do think abt THE topic which is going to chase us for the rest of our lives... tats an absolute certainty... now you as an "MBA" you would have been trained on cing all angles to a problem.. tendency is to take a side n choose one we r comfortable wit(usually the side we r on :)) .. now for a political leader there are various ..numerous factors 2 think abt.. givin out money for one purpose n forgetting others is difficult to do.. now the 130 billion is probably a much smaller sum ..tan wht they lose or use ..to implement these emission measures... now imagine the developing countries are developing.. this is the phase where you can factor in and build in measures takin the climate change into perspective.. for already developed countries getting these processes in would be even costlier... now according to me this is not very smart..cos wht we r talkin abt is the environment.n it is a factor tat is all powerful.. we r puny in front of tat awesome power.. so sooner or later these measures are inevitable.. for me itz briliant that we as a country have set these targets fpr ourselfs..n tat 2 by using money comin from somewhere else..not the tax payers..atleast most of it.. this can only help us.. n this can be another landmark for India as a country..cos jus imagine..10-15 years down the line.. India is probably developed n developed taking climatic measures..which should be by then incorporated..in2 the entire process.. tat is wen the present "developed" countries will have to deal wit a lower economic strength..relatively.. n at the same time implement these emission norms.. who do u think will have to giv them mney then.. :)

look these changes have to be made..no question on tat.. better to factor them in now tan struggle later..n itz not a competition ..itz the planet..who does or who doesnt we shouldnt really care...we should do all we can ourselves.. n hope tat we can survive nature's fury...
n do remember itz not really a voluntary measure.. it took Obama's silver tounge to make this possible.. n again itz not legally binding.. so wht is actually implemented is to be seen..
All of us should be really concerened abt wht is happening to the environment.. the way it loks now.. we prob will c major upheavals in this fragile eco-system with our own short lifetimes.. tc.....

  3. Hey Nice effort Akil
answer to ur questions : well i Think the world politics is just of give and take attitude its nothing like that of resolving an issue as such even when an issue is damm serious like this one.

  4. @Amitbakshi ~ Well indeed US is "the center" of world diplomacy, but u raised a very gud question that whether there should be an unbiased organisation which def. should work out of the influence of US and take appropriate measures agreeable to all countries or not.....!!! But United Nations(UN) and IPCC both are working as an independent organisations for this, whether they r influenced by US is questionable (i really don't know)....??

  5. @Abhishek ~ Indeed Developed countries are thinking smartly by providing Developing countries the money for cutting down the emissions. Yes, they know that if they'll invest money for emission cuts, it'll b much higher than what they r giving to the developing nations ($130 billion) because of their already established infrastructure n all.

But the leaders of these developed nations are nt understanding that this is a very serious matter n warrants immediate attention and therefore... u also rightly pointed out that we cn see some major upheavals in this fragile eco-system in our lifetimes...!!!

  6. am not saying that the developed countries are acting smartly or nething like tat... am saying they are acting the way the have latitute in... and seriously if me n u can...hmmm ..sense that this matter is serious.. u think some1 like Obama doesnt understand..comon the guy jus became the most powerful(in the spotlight) man in the world.. he is smart enough .. mayb we r not aware enough to understand the reasons for tat kind of a decision.. I dnt think most of these ppl r Demons nor do i think they r fools...

  8. Not a bad start i would say and you have a quite a few comments for the first post.
I do not have a lot of idea on climate issues and stuff, but to think of it the developed countries are already industralized to the extent that for them to invest in a green infrastructure, it will be difficult.
So, they expect the developing countries to invest in Green infra in early stages.
It is actually profitable because there is something known as Carbon Credits. Whoever invests in Green IT can accumulate carbon credits and then companies in US buy them for cash, just like any other trading platform.

So, in a way it aint bad if the developed countries want to incentivize the developing countries,in the end it is the global environment being taken care of and the Indian companies will make enormous energy savings too

  9. nice post
and it is just a cause and effect story on the rise.
What I fail to understand, however, is that if it is about 'industrial developments', the developing nations should require these 'exceptions' more than the developed nations.

  12. @ani_aset ~ Thanks for your suggestions buddy, would def. keep in mind while writing my second post :-)

@Ankit_A ~ Relevant Point raised by you as in it is good for both sides to encourage carbon credits, developing countries while taking some green initiatives can earn from those carbon credits and for developed countries, it is the right thing as it'll cost them more because of their already established infrastructure.

    @Cheth, @Brijesh & @Adee ~ Thank u very much for your appreciation friends :-)
